Turning Compliance Training Into a Fun and Interactive Game Competition
As a leading asset manager, FS Investments understands compliance as key to their business and hosts an annual compliance presentation to ensure their employees stay up-to-date with regulations and best practices of the finance industry. How do you make sure everyone is on board in meeting compliance controls and processes?
Partnering with VPOLL, they were able to turn a standard presentation into a fun and interactive environment. Using the VPOLL competition feature, employees were divided into three teams by department. It was time to compete against each other in a quiz game.
The meeting started with a short presentation before teams ventured into a VPOLL game competition which included approximately 20 questions about scenarios related to compliance rules and regulations.
Chris Pagnotta, Chief Compliance Officer at FS Investment Solutions, LLC, a broker-dealer subsidiary of FS Investments, took the time to talk about the key factors for choosing VPOLL.
"We develop questions tailored to compliance topics and things we want our employees to know and remember. And we've structured it, almost like a Jeopardy type game, keeping track of the scores for the teams and who's getting which questions correct. At the end, we even have a big trophy for the team with the highest score in total!"
Securing a dynamic presentation
In search of innovative solutions to engage its employees in compliance training, FS Investments turned to VPOLL several years ago and never looked back. Since deploying the VPOLL interactive format, the company has seen a massive improvement in compliance training, with a higher completion rate and better employee understanding of the required topics. This has helped employees retain information and boost their motivation.
"We always get compliments from people that it's a really fun experience for them. And they really enjoy it and have a good time. The main reason for that is because we're able to structure it in this kind of quiz game format."
Intuitive and user-friendly interface
In 2021, the company held a hybrid compliance meeting for the first time, with participants in the same room and others joining remotely. With VPOLL it was easy to move from in-person to a hybrid meeting format as the system is flexible, adaptable, and easy to navigate. Having the support of a VPOLL technician on-site enabled the team to move forward with confidence, ensuring everyone can hear and be heard. It allowed remote participants to feel included and engaged. Additionally, the technician was able to assist with maintaining a consistent connection between the in-person and remote participants.
"We had a hybrid meeting and used the web app to log in and answer questions. This gave people the flexibility to participate on their phone, iPad or computer. It also allowed people that weren't here in person to participate. Scott was there to aggregate all information in the system and display results with great speed, ensuring everything runs smoothly."
Deepened learning with comprehensive data
Gaining a better understanding of employees' compliance knowledge was another essential requirement. The company needed a reliable source to check the overall team standings and see how each team was doing to determine the winner. Using VPOLL, they were able to display the team leading the compliance competition and gather instant live reports detailing the results of each question and by individual.
"By assessing all this data, we're able to see which questions people did better on and where they struggled. Do people need a bit more training or maybe we need to improve our questions? It helps us better understand their knowledge level and tailor our compliance program for the future. "
